Chhange is launching our digital archive this Fall! On September 7th, educators are invited to join Chhange for a virtual "tour" of the archives. This tour will also offer recommendations on how best to implement digital archival materials and primary sources in the classroom. Change's digital archive will be free for educators and the public following the September launch.
Chhange is home to thousands of archival materials, many of which were donated by local Survivors of the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide & other 20th century genocides. Our archive contains personal objects, artwork, letters, diaries, clothing, memoirs, and government documents. Over the years, Chhange has found that these items greatly enrich our educational programs by giving students a chance to interact directly with a piece of history. In creating our digital archive, Chhange hopes to broaden the impact of our collections by making them easily accessible to educators from inside their classrooms. Students will have the opportunity to engage with the human story behind genocide: they might follow the life of Holocaust survivor Ruth Knopp through her family photos, the objects she collected as she fought to survive the Holocaust, and the documents that trace her struggle to begin a new life in the United States. Join our virtual tour to learn more about teaching Ruth and other Survivors' stories through the personal objects that made up their everyday lives.
