34th Annual Colloquium

In May 2016, Chhange held its 34th Annual Colloquium, Little Rock Nine: An Eyewitness Account, featuring Dr. Terrence Roberts. Over 2,300 students and educators came together in the Robert J. Collins Arena on Brookdale’s Lincroft campus to hear Dr. Roberts speak.

In 1957 Terrence Roberts, age 15, was one of 9 students to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. 350 armed paratroopers surrounded the building – never before had Federal troops been used to enforce integration in a public school.

Dr. Roberts spoke eloquently about his personal experience as one of the Little Rock Nine, its impact on his life, and its relevance today. Following the keynote address, Colloquium participants had the opportunity to attend one of 42 small group workshops offered on issues related to prejudice, bullying, human rights and activism.

Chhange educates, inspires, and empowers individuals to stand up to injustice.
