Dr. Joan Scocco, Interim Vice President, Academic Affairs - Brookdale Community College
Dr. Joan Scocco serves as Brookdale Community College's Interim Vice President, Academic Affairs, with broad responsibilities for the planning, development and administration of the college's educational programs and services. A member of the President's Senior Executive Leadership Team, Scocco participates in strategic planning, policy formulation, budgetary decisions, problem solving and offers advice and counsel on the implications of institutional decisions on both the academic programs and the student experience.
Scocco began her career at Brookdale in 2004, first as an Adjunct Instructor and later a Learning Assistant in 2008. In 2013, she undertook the role of Operations Manager in the Continuing & Professional Studies Department and was appointed Dean in 2018. She is known as being an innovator, a servant leader, a lifelong learner, and a devoted educator. Her philosophy is a simple one: Students first. Always.
Scocco holds a Doctorate of Management in Community College Policy and Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus, a Master of Arts in Executive Communication from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Pace University.
Earlier in her career, she worked in a variety of executive roles in private industry. Her experience includes serving as the Vice President of Human Resources for a large New York bank, and as the Director of Communications for a local engineering company.
Scocco actively makes presentations to the campus and community. She serves as director on several boards of nonprofit organizations, including the Eastern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. She received Brookdale's 2018 Barringer Award for Educational Excellence, Outstanding Administrator Award 2017, Outstanding Adjunct Award 2015, as well as awards from the National Society of Leadership and Success.
