Keeping it Real: Rendering Lost Voices from the Black Stage
Since William Wells Brown published The Escape; or, A Leap to Freedom in 1858, Black artists in the United States have used theater as a tool to express their humanity and fight for Black liberation.
Join Chhange and Taylor Barfield, the Literary Manager at Two River Theater and D.F.A. Candidate at the Yale School of Drama, for a discussion on how Black playwrights have framed and re-framed ideas of authentic Black experiences in the United States. His talk will explore how theatrical representations have been used to both achieve and impede Black liberation in the United States.
