2026 Colloquium - Resistance: Mothers' Quest for Justice
Chhange's 44th Annual Colloquium at Brookdale Community College's Student Life Center Weds., May 20, 2026, featured the following plenary speakers:
Lucía Díaz Genao is a mother who became an activist and leader in the fight to find the disappeared in Mexico. Lucy shared how her world turned upside down in 2013 when her 29-year-old son, Luis Guillermo, a popular DJ, was kidnapped. When the Mexican authorities failed to act, Lucy decided she had to do something. That began her tireless search for her son, a quest that is ongoing.
Dr. Matthew Hone conducts investigations focused on Latin America and working as an adjunct professor at Stockton University teaching courses on genocide, state violence in Latin America, and enforced disappearances. He is co-author of the recently published book, "Victim Activists in Mexico: Social and Political Mobilization amid Extreme Violence and Disappearances."
A variety of workshops led by educators, Survivors, scholars, and community activists constituted the breakout sessions that followed the plenary.
Teachers received 3 Professional Development credits.
